5 Ways to Bring More Warmth Into Your Home During Fall

Golden leaves are beginning to scatter around the ground signaling shorter days are readily approaching. Pumpkin Spice Lattes are now available; it’s abundantly clear autumn is here.

As the morning and evening air is crisp it’s the perfect time to pull out the long sleeve shirts and pants that have been tucked away all summer. Your home may also be reflecting summer with lingering sunscreen still on the counter. The time has come to prep the home for the cooler months ahead and I’m here to help.

Below is a list of 5 ways to bring warmth into your home and life for the coming months ahead.

1.

Candles

There’s nothing like a scent to immediately transform your home and there’s no better way to do so than with lovely fall candles. Scents with apple, cinnamon, pumpkin and vanilla will pull you make you want to hunker down with the family and look forward to the shortening days. Flickering flames giving off a soft glow will bring a sense of calm after a hectic day. Candles that come in lovely containers are added bonuses, as they’ll make you smile every time you see them.

2.
Throw Blankets

Investing in an ultra soft throw blanket for the sofa or foot of the bed will be an invitation to cozy up with a good book. In addition to creating a feeling of warmth to any room throw blankets are also practical. By having one you love to look at you’ll want to keep it draped on the arm of the couch or your favorite chair and not hidden away where you won’t use it.

3.
Hot Cocoa

I am the first to admit I LOVE hot cocoa year round. Skip desert, go straight for the whole milk (or non-milk alternative) and add extra cocoa. The tip here is to stir and stir a little more so it’s well blended. Top with a hefty serving of whipped cream because sometimes you need that extra yum. You’ll be thankful the sun is setting earlier now.

4.
Slippers

Whether your day is starting off or ending there is just nothing like being at home with your favorite pair of slippers. Slip them on when you climb out of bed so your feet never have to touch that cold bathroom floor then slip back into them when you arrive home from a long hectic day and you’ll immediately feel life’s warmth return.

5.
Hang a Wreath on Your Front Door

Pulling up to your home after a long day and seeing a welcoming wreath will bring the feeling of home before you even walk through the door. There is something about a house that has a wreath on it to make it appear much more like a home and not another house on the block. Stick to neutral tones for a sense of calm (but if you’re getting excited for Halloween then go for the brighter orange and yellow shades!)

Enjoy the cooler months of the year. Open that book you’ve been longing to read or sit quietly for a moment sipping your delicious hot cocoa and feel the peace in your home. Yes, even if there are kids running around playing... peace can come in many forms.

And as always live life warmly.
